The Dynamics of Family

I’m sitting here thinking about the dynamics of family. How complex it can be to an outsider, and yet so simple to one on the inside.

For example, I had an aunt who was also my grandmother because she was my father’s cousin and yet my mother’s foster mother.

I have uncles and aunties who aren’t my parents’ siblings or cousins, just their friends.

I have cousins that I call uncles and aunties just because of the age gap and because I find it more befitting.

I have cousins who I call brothers and sisters because we lived together at a point in time.

And I have a best-friend that I call Mama because that’s what our children call her.
